Moving Tips

#1 SORT THINGS BY CATAGORY

Organize your belongings by category, not by room. Instead of spending a day cleaning out your entire bedroom, spend an afternoon sorting through every article of clothing you own. Scour every coat closet, dirty clothes hamper, and laundry room until you’ve got all your clothes in one place. Then sort. Do the same thing for books, shoes, important papers, and the like.

#2 SAY GOODBYE TO UNUSED STUFF

It’s incredible how quickly things can accumulate and make a small home feel even smaller. Be vigilant against letting stuff into your house. Consider instituting a one-in, one-out rule for similar-size goods to keep the clutter from spreading like a disease. Every year, do a major spring-cleaning, even if you do it in October. Hold garage sales. Sell stuff online. Opt out and reduce the amount of junk mail that comes to your house.

The less stuff you have in your life, the less stress you feel.

#3 GET STURDY, UNIFORM PACKING SUPPLIES

There are many reasons to use sturdy boxes for moving. Whenever something is moved, there is the potential for it to be damaged. Large items can be protected by padding them, but smaller items are generally put into boxes. The reason many people believe is to make packing the transport easier, but protection is really the basis for it.

#4 PACK THE BASICS YOURSELF

The trick to packing for a move without getting overwhelmed is to break down the big project into smaller packing tasks. This way, you will find the resulted task division easier to accept and even encouraging as you keep marking as complete one mini packing task after the other.
